Reducing imported emissions

The Sustainable Development Foundation is hosting CleanTrade, a new not-for-profit working to reduce carbon emissions from the UK’s imports to give green industry a fair chance.

They will undertake research into how the UK government can reduce the carbon emissions produced outside the UK in the supply chains of products imported into the UK. Reducing these so-called “imported emissions” could incentivise global supply chains to cut emissions, saving money in the process, and support low-carbon industries in the UK and abroad, which can currently be undercut by imports from places with fewer climate regulations.

The SDF will be working with CleanTrade to explore how this might apply in the construction sector.
