Delivering Sustainable Housing at Scale

On 14 May, the SDF led a conversation at the Futurebuild Arena with a panel focused on how high-performance homes move from exceptional one-offs to mainstream delivery, consistently, collaboratively, and at pace.

Ann-Marie Fallon of the Passivhaus Trust and Architype explored what achieving retrofit at scale actually requires, exploring use of the Estate Retrofit Toolkit. Adam Harper of City of York Council shared the experience of delivering newbuild social housing to Passivhaus standards and beyond, including the recently-completed Duncombe Square site. Attzaz Rashid of Barratt London brought the perspective of high-performance commercial housing in the capital, where Barratt have committed to meeting the Passivhaus standard on all their new homes in the capital, including at their Bollo Lane project.

Across the three days, our stand drew strong interest and some genuinely significant conversations. Over a hundred visitors scanned in, and the quality of engagement reflected the growing urgency of this agenda. The National House Building Council came to talk to us specifically about integrating Passivhaus standards into their framework, the kind of systemic shift the SDF exists to support and accelerate.

A huge thank you to our speakers, our alliance partners, and everyone who visited the stand, asked hard questions, and kept the conversation going.
