In the Sustainable Development Foundation’s 20th anniversary year, we are delighted to announce a new one-off awards programme to identify and celebrate the UK’s most pioneering sustainable projects, innovative products, and transformative initiatives.
Now open for entries, the Exemplar Sustainable Building Awards unites two leading award schemes from SDF Alliance partners Passivhaus Trust and Alliance for Sustainable Building Products. Going beyond estimated energy and carbon savings, these awards demand proven performance. They build on the UK Passivhaus Awards’ data-driven approach and the ASBP Awards’ focus on embodied carbon and healthy buildings, and they align with the SDF’s high performance sustainable buildings indicators, in order to identify outstanding exemplars that demonstrate a holistic approach to sustainable construction, delivering for people, planet and communities.

What we are looking for
We’re seeking exceptional UK projects, products & initiatives across five categories:
All entrants, whether new or candidates that have stood the test of time, should be able to demonstrate:
- Measured operational & embodied carbon performance
- Real positive impact on occupants & society
- Alignment with the SDF’s 10 high performance sustainable building indicators.
Previous winners of the ASBP Awards and the UK Passivhaus Awards are eligible to enter – they will be expected to demonstrate longevity and continued performance over time. Detailed criteria & eligibility varies for each category. Check the website for full requirements & guidelines.
